Officers rescued a man who fell through the ice off the shore of Five Islands Park, according to the report, leading to the hospitalization of a man believed to be in his 50s, who was treated for hypothermia.
According to the report, shortly before 4:45 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 8, a person at the park alerted New Rochelle Police that he could hear someone shouting from across the water. Further investigation led to the discovery of the man in the water, who required extrication from the icy water before he could be treated by paramedics and transported to Montefiore Hospital in New Rochelle.
It was not immediately clear how the man fell through the ice in the area. His condition was not available on Tuesday morning, though his injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening. According to the report, the temperature at the time the man fell through the ice was approximately 28 degrees, though it the temperature of the water was not available.
